Rockwell-collins - ExecutiveMosaicRockwell Collins has won a three-year, $8.5 million contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to create a digital converter for radio systems meant to help evaluate threats.

The company will work under the DISARMER initiative and will seek to use photonic analog technology from the DARPA RADER program to build a digital receiver capable of accommodating X-band frequencies, Rockwell Collins said Monday.

John Borghese, vice president of the advanced technology center at Rockwell Collins, said the company intends to develop a system that can digitize radio signals at higher frequencies in order to assess threats faster.

The agency’s goal is to obtain a DISARMER digital receiver built to allow field reconfiguration and to reduce number of equipment as well as the weight, size, cost and power of commercial and military radio systems.
