SIEMENS logo_ExecutiveBizSiemens will use a three-dimensional printing technology for gas-turbines components in an effort to speed up its manufacturing process, The Times Union reported Friday.

The company is developing the 3D technology at a research facility in Niskayuna, N.Y. and will use it to produce fuel nozzles and other engine parts starting in 2016, Eric Anderson writes, citing the Financial Times.

Anderson reports that Siemens wants to manufacture 3D-printed spare parts for the Boeing 737 Max and Airbus A320 commercial aircraft.

Three-dimensional printers are built to create digital objects and help additive manufacturers perform tasks remotely, according to the report.
