HARRIS1A Harris Corp. business unit has been awarded a $28 million contract to provide tactical radios to an unidentified Latin American country seeking to monitor drug smuggling and other cross-border illegal activities.

The nation is buying Harris RF Communications‘ Falcon III RF-7800V combat net radios, RF-7800S secure personal radios and Falcon II RF-5800H high frequency radios for communications with the U.S. and other partners, Harris said Friday.

Brendan O’Connell, president of international business at Harris RF Communications, said the company aims to help customers build up their situational awareness and command and control postures for interoperability of tactical communications.

O’Connell added the radios are designed to help the nation respond to illegal drug trafficking and other security threats.
