DRS- ExecutiveMosaicDRS Technologies has delivered its permanent magnet motors offering to Weatherford International Ltd., a provider of equipment for the oil and gas industry.

The rugged PR Series 1600 HP magnet motor technology is built to be integrated with Weatherford’s oil drilling mud pump, DRS said Friday.

“We believe permanent magnet motor technology and the direct drive mud pump, working together, can provide significant value to drilling contractors and their customers,” said Rich Armstrong, vice president and general manager of DRS Power Technology.

The permanent magnet motor technology is designed to help reduce size requirements of the drilling system, DRS says.

DRS and Weatherford started work on the magnet motor in 2010 at DRS Power Technology’s Massachusetts-based facility.
