NavyShipBAE Systems has awarded Siemensindustry sector with a contract to install a diesel engine on a multi-purpose subsea support and construction vessel for Oceaneering International, Maritime Executive reported Wednesday.

The publication reports that Siemens Industry will fit its Blue Drive diesel-electric propulsion system into the commercial ship being built by BAE for OI’s offshore drilling operations.

Doug Keith, Siemens Industry president for the drive technologies division, said the DEP technology is designed to help ship operators address safety, productivity and fuel consumption issues, according to the report.

The low-voltage DEP system is comprised of switchboards, motors, alarm and power management tools, generators and drive transformers.

Maritime Executive reports the 353-foot-long DP2 vessel will carry work class remotely operated vehicles and is slated for delivery to Oceaneering by the end of the first quarter of 2016.
