OrionLockheed Martin and NASA have completed a series of environmental tests on the Orion spacecraft to monitor how it performed during simulated launch and ascent vibrations.

Engineers who conducted the Multi-Point Random Vibration Testing compared results and predictions and worked to verify the performance of at least 20 avionics and propulsion systems, Lockheed said Tuesday.

The company and NASA collected the test results and observations to determine if Orion and its components could withstand such conditions and continue normal functions during the Exploration Flight Test-1 testing stage.

Lockheed and the agency will conduct another environmental test before EFT-1, where engineers will expose the spacecraft to radio frequency signals it will encounter during the test flight and monitor the performance of Orion’s systems.
