Lockheed Martin will partner with Neya Systems to integrate a mission planning and management system with a military unmanned aerial vehicle that carries out casualty evacuation and cargo resupply missions in Afghanistan.
Neya Systems said Monday the companies will install VERTI on the K-MAX delivery drone as part of a Phase III Small Business Innovation Research program.
Dr. Jeffrey Poulin, a Lockheed engineering fellow, said the company built the K-MAX to operate with an open architecture on-board autonomy suite and aims to develop a framework for integrating and maturing future control systems and technologies.
The technology features a user interface that works to guide users through specific missions based on the pre-mission planning parameters and support changes based on the real-time situation.
