Lockheed Martin BlueLockheed Martin has transitioned its small unmanned aircraft systems to new automation technologies in an effort to help operators execute missions.

The mobile Ground Control Station software features an interface, touchscreen, joystick preferences and an operator manual, Lockheed said Wednesday.

Kevin Westfall, director of unmanned services at Lockheed’s mission systems and training business, said the software updates are intended for customers to manage drones through a centralized control system.

The open system-based software tool is built to work with computers, hand controllers, autopilots, data links and sensors.

The mGCS system was demonstrated for situational awareness of operators on board Lockheed’s Desert Hawk III UAS earlier this year.
