Ian KingBAE Systems plc CEO Ian King has expressed optimism that the U.S. government’s forthcoming defense budget could spell greater stability for the company and the industry over the next few years, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

“In the U.S., the announced defense budget, while not yet finally agreed in detail, indicates spending reductions much as we had anticipated and points to a more predictable outlook than we have seen in recent years,” King said.

The London-based contractor said it tried to offset a passive outlook on its main markets the U.S. and U.K. by focusing on gaining efficiencies, affordability and contracts abroad.

“We continue to focus on program execution and on enhancing efficiency and affordability to ensure the group is best positioned for the future,” King said.
