IntelLogo EbizIntel Corp. and San Jose, California have partnered to kick off a clean technology pilot program in the city in an effort to further economic growth, environmental sustainability and job creation.

San Jose has installed a network of sensors using an Intel-built gateway for the Internet of Things with a Quark processor as part of the Smart Cities USA, Intel said Wednesday.

The technology, which features the Wind River Intelligent software with McAfee security tool, is built to calculate particulates in the air, noise pollution and traffic flow.

San Jose residents will have access to real-time data through the project in order to inform their decisions.

Cities worldwide can also deploy Intel technologies for applications in air and water quality, traffic and parking management, communications systems and city infrastructures, the company says.

The project was showcased at the White House SmartAmerica Challenge.
