The advent of the Internet of Things has already generated tons of data that enterprises are struggling to both make sense of and use, Gagan Mehra, Terracotta chief evangelist, wrote on parent company Software AG’s blog.

He suggests that in-memory data management tools could help make sense of the high volume in an era where real-time insights could mean improved operations, customer experience and lead times.

“IMDM enables storage of hundreds of terabytes of data, faster response times and almost instant analytics,” Mehra said Thursday.

“IMDM supports several different connectivity options… (and) historical data can also be accessed easily and correlated with more recent data,” he added.

Mehra cited a customer who needed a tool to deal with the 5 terabytes of IoT data it generates on a daily basis and how Terracotta helped overcome the challenge by using the “different kind of architecture” IMDM offers.

Terracotta’s IMDM offering, called BigMemory, is built for low latency and quick deployment ion IoT use cases for utilities, government and healthcare clients, Mehra said.
