satellite airforceAirbus and Inmarsat have partnered to develop broadband airborne terminals for aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicle customers.

Military and government clients are meant to gain access to Inmarsat“™s Global Xpress Ka-band satellite service through Airbus“™ airborne portfolio, Airbus said Tuesday.

“Combining the unique Global Xpress service with Airbus Defence and Space“™s proven heritage in airborne satcom heralds a new era of operational flexibility,“ said Andy Start, president of Inmarsat Global Government.

The combined offering is intended to deliver high-speed satellite communications options for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations of aircraft.

The agreement follows Airbus and Inmarsat“™s GX distribution partnership, which concluded in December.
