BAE Systems Inc. is upbeat the U.S. Army will ink an agreement to procure missile guidance systems worth $30,000 from the company in 2015, DoD Buzz reported Friday.
Brendan McGarry writes the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System kit works to transmit semi-active laser guidance and control to a 2.75-inch Hydra rocket.
David Harrold, director of precision guidance solutions and electronic systems at BAE Systems Inc., told a briefing at the Farnborough International Air Show the company built the tool to address requirements for engaging light targets, according to the report.
“I’m feeling pretty bullish about the Army buying some APKWS in 2015,†Harrold told the briefing.
BAE Systems recently tested the kit on the Army’s AH-64 Apache helicopter, DoD Buzz reports.
McGarry writes the Army’s budget request for the fiscal year 2015 includes a proposal to buy the missile guidance tool.
