Huntington Ingalls Industries has won a $23.5 million contract to develop an amphibious assault ship for the U.S. Navy in compliance with the service“™s cost-saving plan.
Ingalls Shipbuilding division“™s engineers and planners will work to design and construct the Navy“™s amphibious assault ship LHA 8, Huntington Ingalls said Thursday.
Brian Cuccias, Ingalls Shipbuilding president, said the company intends for the contract to “implement cost-saving measures to help the Navy reach their affordability goals.“
“We are committed to building affordable ships, and this contract begins industry involvement in a meaningful way to implement improved cost in amphibious shipbuilding, specifically LHA 8,“ Cuccias added.
