LindeLinde will supply NASA with approximately 360,000 tons of liquid nitrogen and 64,000 tons of liquid oxygen to support the operations of six research and space flight centers across the U.S.

The company said Monday the agency uses nitrogen for pressurization, purging, inerting and pneumatic actuation, while oxygen is used as oxidizer for cryogenic rocket engines.

The research and space flight centers included in the contract are Glenn Research Center in Ohio, Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, Johnson Space Center in Texas, Stennis Space Center in Mississippi, Michoud Assembly Facility in Louisiana and Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama.

Cliff Caldwell, Linde’s vice president and general manager for bulk markets and applications, said the company has 30 facilities that produce oxygen, nitrogen and argon to meet production needs.

Linde is currently building an air separation unit in La Porte, Texas, which will be its largest industrial gas plant in the U.S.
