MRI-Global2MRIGlobal announced last week it has received a new $63 million, 10-year contract from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to provide analytical chemistry for the National Toxicology Program.

MRIGlobal will provide chemical procurement, handling and analytical services in toxicology studies through the National Toxicology Program, examining chemicals found in consumer products and the characteristics that they have.

“Every year an estimated 2,000 new chemicals are introduced into the consumer products we use daily. The National Toxicology Program provides a critical public health function in understanding the effects of these chemicals,” said Thomas M. Sack, president and Chief Executive Officer of MRIGlobal.

The initial $2.4 million eight-month award is a continuum of services MRIGlobal has provided since 1972, issuing nearly 6,500 technical reports on more than 2,000 study chemicals.

After their downsizing in 2013 the NIH issued a new request for proposal in the spring, initiating the process for a new 10-year program.

“We are excited to continue our chemistry support for the National Toxicology Program,” said Roger K. Harris, associate vice president and Director of Product Development and Repository Management.

This project was funded with Federal funds under contract from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, National Institutes of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services.
