NASA has awarded a two-year contract to Hensel Phelps Construction Co., to begin construction on a new multi-story headquarters at the Kennedy Space Center in Orlando, Fla.

The $64.8 million contract will allow for demolition of the Kennedy Industrial Area, saving Kennedy an estimated $400 million in the next 40 years through a 50 percent reduction in operation and maintenance costs.

The new headquarters building will be the centerpiece for Kennedy’s central campus, said Hensel Phelps, as they construct and install the necessary architecture for improvements on the structure.
