Brian-CucciasHuntington Ingalls Industries’ shipbuilding arm demonstrated its continued support to ensure skilled professions for high school undergraduates with a $53,640 donation to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

HII said Wednesday that the money will be used to purchase welding machines for the school’s Transitions Academy at West Harrison County Center in Long Beach, Mississippi.

“Ingalls Shipbuilding and MGCCC have a longstanding partnership in workforce development and training,” said Brian Cuccias,  HII corporate vice president and Ingalls Shipbuilding president.

“This donation solidifies our commitment to continuing this partnership and the ultimate goal of growing the number of skilled professionals on the Gulf Coast,” he added.

MGCCC’s welding technology program caters to individuals 18 years old and above looking to have highly paid, in-demand skill sets but who do not possess high school diplomas.

Enrolees get a chance to obtain a GED certificate as well as college course credits.
