Ken Asbury, president and CEO of CACI International, says the health information technology and cybersecurity areas present the company with opportunities for growth in the federal market, The Washington Post reported Sunday.

Amrita Jayakumar writes that Asbury told the Post in a phone interview the company also wants to acquire businesses that specialize in health IT, intelligence and cyber platforms.

He explained that CACI aims to apply lessons the GovCon industry learned under sequestration to prepare for more difficult times in the future.

“We plan for things to take longer, we put more uncertainty into the schedules, and put less amounts in some programs,” Asbury told the newspaper.

“I want to be optimistic that people are going to realize that sequestration is not [a plausible] way forward,” he said to Jayakumar.

Jayakumar reports Asbury wants to think the company is an organization that can adapt well to an uncertain fiscal environment.

He does not expect the upcoming midterm elections to have a significant effect on industry.

“The policies may change a bit here and there [depending on who’s in power], but in general, the government continues to need the services and solutions that industry provides,” he told the Post.
