Mark Bartolomeo, head of connected solutions at Verizon Enterprise Solutions, has urged industry to focus on building a network that utilizes cybersecurity measures and greater cloud capacity in a shift toward the “Internet of Things.”
“As enterprises seek to derive more intelligence from the network by connecting things, it’s imperative that we help them navigate the entangled web of the Internet of Things proactively so that they understand the key risks and challenges eyes wide open – and that starts with understanding the network,” Bartolomeo said.
He pointed to a “cybersecurity gap” and said the Internet of Things currently lacks common interoperability standards, which he believes puts connected devices at risk.
McGehee noted that security measures should be centered on three points: the connected “thing,” the communications channel between connected “things” and a remote service that communicates with and operates the connected “things.”
She said offerings such as Verizon’s Managed Certificate Services can help to ensure the correct machines are communicating with each other.
