datadirect networksIndia’s National Institute of Biomedical Genomics has deployed DataDirect Networks‘ block, file and object storage platforms to manage the institute’s research data.

NIBMG’s team worked to run sequence analysis of data stored in DDN’s platform and identify new genes and biological pathways related to smokeless tobacco consumption that many scientists believe is responsible for oral cancer among men in India, DDN said Tuesday.

The research institute implemented DDN SFA storage,  GRIDScaler parallel file system and WOS object storage platform to handle data ingest, processing, storing, collaboration and disaster recovery.

NIMBG generates up to 500 terabytes of data pertaining to oral cancer in order to interpret and analyze DNA sequence data.

“We felt that DDN was best suited to help us quickly and easily process a large amount of fixed, raw data to produce meaningful interpretations for further analysis of genetic mutations and cancer-causing changes in DNA,” said Bikram Roy, systems analyst at NIBMG.
