MEADS International has demonstrated its multifunction fire control radar at Pratica di Mare Air Base near Rome and at the Freinhause, Germany-based MBDA air defense center.

The Medium Extended Air Defense System program completed the performance test for the radar system’s functions to track and jam signals, search in ground clutter and identifying target using kinematic data, Lockheed Martin said Tuesday.

“MEADS technologies are designed to fulfill requirements for an advanced tactical air and missile defense system that anticipates future threats,” said Siegfried Bucheler, director of programs and supply chain at MBDA Germany and chairman of the board of directors at MEADS International.

MEADS radars serve as nodes on the MEADS network to protect ground troops from missiles by using plug-and-fight technology.

“Its 360-degree capability provides added protection against next-generation threats for military sites and civilian populations,” said Marco Riccetti, technical director for MEADS International.

Orlando, Florida-based MEADS International partnered with MBDA in Italy and Germany and Lockheed to develop the program.
