Raytheon logo_EbizRaytheon and the U.S. Navy have evaluated new software upgrades to the Tomahawk weapon system in a series of flight tests.

The Tomahawk Block IV engaged its target at the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, China Lake weapons range after it launched from the USS Hampton submarine and redirected by a strike controller from a maritime command center, Raytheon said Wednesday.

The weapon system also hit its target off the Southern California coast following the Tomahawk Block IV’s launch from the USS Lake Champlain guided missile cruiser during the second test.

“These flight tests demonstrate how Raytheon and the U.S. Navy are working together to enhance this already sophisticated weapon,” said Mike Jarrett, Raytheon air warfare systems vice president.

“By constantly improving Tomahawk, we are helping to ensure that U.S. and allied warfighters have this critical capability far into the future,” Jarrett added.
