Vormetric seeks to add more protection to DataStax’s Apache Cassandra database management system with two new data security platforms.

Transparent Encryption will attach a layer of data-at-rest security for Cassandra customers and activate privilege user access control and security intelligence collection, Vormetric said Sept. 11.

Application Encryption provides extended field-level safeguards to an enterprise’s existing applications, such as databases, big data or a platform as a service.

“Organizations are increasingly moving to cloud and big data environments but are unable to reap the full benefits of these new technologies due to the need to secure sensitive data,” said Tina Stewart, marketing vice president at Vormetric.

“Vormetric helps enterprises to make full use of these new resources by addressing requirements for security, risk reduction, data privacy and compliance,” she added.

Vormetric and DataStax announced the partnership at the recent Cassandra Summit 2014.
