F35 Air MissileLockheed Martin and Turkish weapons manufacturer Roketsan have signed a partnership agreement to develop, produce and market air-to-surface missiles for the F-35 fighter program.

The companies seek to offer a new Standoff Cruise Missile variant that can be placed in F-35 internal carriage bays or on external carriage of other aircraft platforms, Lockheed said Tuesday.

“Lockheed Martin has a long history of partnership with the Republic of Turkey, and we look forward to working closely with Roketsan on this very important project,” said Rick Edwards, executive vice president for Lockheed’s missiles and fire control business.

Eyup Kaptan, Roketsan chairman, added the partnership’s goal is to help defense customers meet anti-surface warfare requirements through SOM technology.

Roketsan manufactures rocket and missile technology and has expanded its operations with the goal of offering defense weapons to Turkish allies.
