Dell has released the findings of a survey that evaluates how organizations adopt security, cloud, mobility and big data technologies.

The survey indicates that 44 percent of information technology leaders consider security a challenge for growing mobile technologies, 52 percent for cloud computing and 35 percent for big data, Dell said Tuesday.

“We know that security, cloud, mobility and big data are the top IT priorities in all industries, but we need a deeper understanding of the practical realities of how companies are using these technologies today and what, if anything, is preventing them from unleashing their full potential,“ said Karen Quintos, chief marketing officer at Dell.

“This research cuts through the hype and provides a clearer roadmap for how Dell can enable our customers to thrive,” Quintos added.

Dell polled more than 2,000 organizations worldwide and found 39 percent of respondents have a security workforce that is aware of the enterprise’s security rules.

The survey also shows 72 percent of organizations using cloud have seen 6 percent growth in the last three years while 58 percent of respondents said they rely on an IT partner for cloud information and 45 percent turn to vendor websites for information.

In the mobility technology area, 34 percent of organizations in Latin America are adopting the bring-your-own device policy, 37 percent in Asia-Pacific, 30 percent in North America and 20 percent in the Europe/Middle East/Africa region.

Dell’s survey also reveals that only 39 percent of respondents worldwide understand how to extract value from their big data.

Organizations cited infrastructure costs, security, lack of management support and lack of technical skills as barriers to implementing big data strategies.
