Mary McLaughlin: Bechtel, Siemens Finish Work on Panda Sherman Power Plant

PowerplantA Bechtel and Siemens alliance has completed work to build a 758-megawatt combined-cycle gas plant in Sherman, Texas, for Panda Power Funds.

The companies finished commissioning of the Panda Sherman Power natural gas facility two weeks ahead of schedule, Bechtel said Thursday.

Bechtel managed the overall project and led construction, procurement and engineering work, while Siemens manufactured the plant turbines, generators and boilers.

“The expertise and collaboration of the team, including consortium partner Siemens, enabled us to bring the plant online ahead of schedule while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards,“ said Mary McLaughlin, president of thermal power business line at Bechtel.

Martin Tartibi, a senior executive vice president at Siemens Energy Solutions Americas, said the Sherman facility is designed with technology that aims to generate high power capacity during hot weather.

The Bechtel-Siemens team also built the Panda Power Temple I and is building another plant adjacent to that station, as well as the Panda Stonewall natural gas-fueled facility in Leesburg, Virginia.
