This year marks the first increase in overall federal contract spending since 2010, Deltek‘s Kevin Plexico wrote in a Washington Post piece published Sunday.

Plexico, vice president of information solutions at Deltek, estimates the departments of State and Commerce, Small Business Administration and Securities and Exchange Commission increased their spend on contracts by more than 20 percent in 2014.

He says the United States Agency for International Development and the departments of Treasury and Housing and Urban Development reported double-digit decreases in 2014 contract spending.

UnitedHealth Group secured federal contracts worth $1.4 billion in fiscal 2013 and that figure more than doubled to approximately $3 billion during the recent fiscal year, according to Plexico.
