A WidePoint Corp. subsidiary has become the first vendor to receive an approval from the Defense Department to issue personal identity verification credentials for more than 40 million users with access to the agency’s information systems.
Operational Research Consultants has been certified to issue external certificate authority PIV interoperable credentials for contractors and trading partners to communicate with defense information systems, WidePoint said Nov. 24.
“The ability to use PIV-I credentials with Android, Apple and Microsoft mobile devices for access into approved DoD networks and software applications is a tremendous step forward in mitigating cybersecurity risk and attacks,“ said Steve Komar, CEO of WidePoint.
Komar also said the DoD recognizes WidePoint’s identity credential provisioning portfolio.
“It ensures that only authorized and protected devices access enterprise resources hosted in any private or public cloud environment,” added Daniel Turissini, chief technology officer of WidePoint.
