Leaders from IBM and Epic visited Oregon Health & Science University to evaluate how the school could support the consortium’s bid for a multibillion dollar contract to modernize the Defense Department‘s healthcare management systems, the Portland Business Journal reported Thursday.

Elizabeth Hayes writes the university’s simulation center could serve as a training facility for DoD can practice protocols for the future electronic health record system if the Pentagon selects the IBM-Epic team.

“OHSU is yet another building block for what we’re trying to do,” Andy Maner, managing partner for global business services at IBM’s U.S. federal business, told the newspaper.

DoD is scheduled to award the contract this spring and four teams of contractors are in the running.
