Raytheon Puts AESA Radar Function Through Flight Test; Roy Azevedo Comments

Raytheon has completed a flight test of its APG-79(V)X AESA radar system fitted to F/A-18C/D Hornet jets to check detection, SAR mapping and air-to-air/air-to-ground functions.

The company said Monday the radar system will aim to help extend the tactical advantage and relevance of the F/A-18C/D.

The APG-79 system joins Raytheon’s APG-63(V)3 and APG-82(V)1 radars and also flies on the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler jets, it added.

“Our portfolio of tactical AESA radars has now flown more than 500,000 operational hours,” said Roy Azevedo, vice president of Raytheon’s space and airborne systems business.
