Lockheed-Esri Team Helps NGA Implement GIS Cloud Portal; Jason O’Connor, Jack Dangermond Comment

world blue mapA Lockheed MartinEsri team has launched a cloud portal for ArcGIS technology with the goal of helping U.S. intelligence and defense agencies organize and share geographic information.

The portal is designed to allow National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and Defense Department analysts access to protected GEOINT data through the Amazon Web Services commercial cloud system, Lockheed said Tuesday.

“This cloud implementation also further shapes the government's processes for architecting and implementing enterprise class services within a cloud environment,” said Jason O’Connor, vice president of Lockheed’s analysis and mission solutions business.

“It recognizes the importance of consolidating geospatial intelligence information into a single portal to facilitate rapid situational awareness and response by our intelligence community,” Esri President Jack Dangermond added.

Esri developed ArcGIS software to help users manage geographic data and maps in multiple applications.

Lockheed and Esri have supported cloud migration efforts across the U.S. intelligence community as part of NGA’s Geospatial-Intelligence Visualization Services initiative.

Lockheed migrated the agency’s Map of the World application to the AWS cloud platform in December 2014.
