Lockheed Martin BlueLockheed Martin has released survey findings that highlight the challenges and gap facing organizations’ strategy to predict and counter cyber attacks.

The survey, conducted by Ponemon Institute, finds that information technology practitioners believe their companies lack the budget (64%) or experts (65%) to address cyber threats, Lockheed said Thursday.

“This survey illuminates areas of concern about cyber readiness across government and critical infrastructure industries,” said Guy Delp, director of cybersecurity and advanced analytics for Lockheed Martin.

Thirty-six percent of respondents ranked negligent insiders as the top network vulnerability of their organization and 53 percent pointed to malicious insiders as among their top four threats.

The survey also reveals that organizations allocate only four and 15 percent of their cybersecurity budgets for employee cyber awareness and supply chain security, respectively.

“Compliance was rated the top cybersecurity business priority by the survey respondents,” said Delp.

“While satisfying compliance standards is important, organizations should view it as a foundation on which to build a more comprehensive security posture,” he added.
