northrop-Grumman_BLUENorthrop Grumman has been awarded a contract of an undisclosed value to produce five more AN/AES-1 Airborne Laser Mine Detection Systems for installation on the U.S. Navy‘s MH-60 helicopters.

The company said Monday it will also provide subsystems, equipment and spares and technical support for the ALMDS mine countermeasure pods.

AN/AES-1 systems are designed with pulsed laser, streak tube receiver and geolocation technologies that work to locate and identify mine objects.

Northrop’s ALMDS manufacturing team members are Arete Associates, Cutting Edge Optronics, CPI Aerostructures, Curtiss Wright Defense Solutions and Meggitt Defence Systems.

Northrop says it has provided Navy with 12 ALMDS pods and delivered four similar systems to Japan.
