The companies will collaborate to develop and implement Apache Hadoop-focused offerings with the goal of expanding big data adoption.
Siki Giunta, senior vice president of cloud at Verizon Enterprise Solutions, said the framework would help fuel the development of new technologies and grow the market.
“An increasingly connected world produces more data in more places,” she noted.
“The challenge for enterprises is first to bring all that data together and second to gain insights that provide a competitive advantage.”
One of the alliance’s goals is to develop a set of standards and versions to broaden compatibility among big data services and integrate applications into various systems.
The open data platform is also intended to provide industry with access to a tested reference core of Apache Hadoop, Apache Ambari and other Apache source artifacts.
Platform members will adhere to the Apache Software Foundation’s guidelines for contributing ideas and code when working with specific Apache projects.
