Lockheed Receives Manufacturing Awards; Orlando Carvalho Comments

Lockheed Martin‘s engineering and production technology projects have received three manufacturing awards from Frost & Sullivan’s Manufacturing Leadership Council.

Orlando Carvalho, executive vice president for Lockheed Martin’s aeronautics business, said Thursday the technology uses “state of the art tools” in order to boost quality and assembly efficiency.

“We are honored to be recognized as a leader in manufacturing from our technology peers,” he added.

Lockheed aided in the additive manufacture of over 5,000 tools and shop aids for the F-35 program through the company’s applied additive tooling technologies project.

The company said its hole drilling process improvement project also led to reduced cost in aircraft production, rework and repair jobs.

Frost & Sullivan also recognized Lockheed for its optical projection of fastener installation data project.
