Lockheed Martin BlueLockheed Martin Canada has moved its mission systems and training business to a new headquarters at Palladium Drive in Kanata, Ontario, from the division’s former location on Solandt Road, the Ottawa Business Journal reported Thursday.

Tom Pechloff writes that Rosemary Chapdelaine, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin Canada MST, said the division employs 160 workers and could hire up to 80 new employees this year.

The 109,000-square-foot HQ includes a manufacturing facility where the company will build systems for Halifax-class frigates under a $1.4 billion contract awarded by the Royal Canadian Navy in 2008, according to the report.

Lockheed partnered with Irving Shipbuilding and Seaspan Marine to support the ship modernization program.

Chapdelaine told the Ottawa Business Journal that four of the 12 proposed Canadian frigates achieved fleet readiness in November.

She added that Lockheed also won a contract to modernize combat systems of two Anzac-class frigates for New Zealand’s navy and plans to begin the upgrade work once the Canadian project is complete, according to Pechloff’s article.
