computer, technologyThe U.S. Navy has tapped Concurrent Technologies Inc. to supply Intel-based computing boards for the service’s various aircraft research projects, Military & Aerospace Electronics reported Wednesday.

John Keller writes the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division has ordered eight VME single-board computers embedded with a two-core 1.7 Gigahertz Core i7 microprocessor and 8 gigabytes of random access memory.

The computing board is applicable to military, telecommunications, aerospace, industrial control, telemetry and scientific missions, according to the report.

Keller writes the PC-compatible board supports third-generation Intel Core processors and the Mobile Intel QM77 Express Chipset with up to 16 gigabytes of RAM.

Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Maryland-based Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division performs research services for the Navy and Marine Corps’ aircraft and trainers.
