DigitalGlobe CEO Jeffrey Tarr told potential investors at a recent event that the company continues to eye a competitive edge in the growing satellite imaging market, SpaceNews reported Thursday.

Peter de Selding writes that Tarr highlighted the demand for high-resolution imagery and geolocation capability as well as DigitalGlobe’s potential partnership with other imaging providers.

Tarr also expressed optimism for reduced costs to build future DigitalGlobe satellites by eliminating added engineering expenses through the reuse of WorldView-3 and WorldView-4 technology and replacing the WorldView-1 and WorldView-2 under a two-satellite order.

DigitalGlobe is scheduled to launch WorldView-4 by September next year, the report said.

“For the first time, we’ll be able to offer our [Direct Access Partners] customers the ability to have capacity that cannot be pre-empted by the U.S. government,” Tarr said at the J.P. Morgan investor conference.
