Gerald Ford aircraft carrierHuntington Ingalls Industries is set to receive a $4 billion contract to design and build the U.S. Navy‘s second Ford-class aircraft carrier, Bloomberg reported Friday.

Anthony Cappacio writes the Navy has obtained approval from U.S. Defense Department acquisition chief Frank Kendall to move forward on the USS John F. Kennedy carrier construction project.

Beci Brenton, a Huntington Ingalls spokesperson, told Bloomberg in an email that the company expects the military service to award the contract by June 30.

Kendall has asked the Navy to develop strategies to manage the $11.498 billion Kennedy construction budget set by Congress, according to the publication.

Cappacio reports that Kendall postponed a determination of when the Navy should put its USS Gerald R. Ford carrier through underwater shock trials.

The military branch expects Huntington Ingalls to deliver USS Ford in March 2016 and USS Kennedy in early 2022.
