ITA new Frost & Sullivan analysis says that worldwide connectivity, urbanization and digital convergence of information technology systems are likely to spur the demand for Internet of Things and cloud-based platforms in smart buildings.

Anirudh Bhaskaran, energy and environmental research analyst at Frost & Sullivan, said Tuesday data generated by interconnected devices from different building departments must be subjected to processing and analysis.

“This demand for enhanced analytics support plays a pivotal role in driving the adoption of IoT in smart buildings,“ he said.

The report also noted that the smart building industry should come up with new business models and new platforms IoT-news-adto address challenges to IoT adoption, including the lack of data security standards and low-power devices.

Bhaskaran added that partnerships with IoT providers and consortiums will help promote advancements in IoT-based devices and software platforms.

“Collaboration between large [building technology] and IoT providers will also be the key to developing cloud-based analytics and drawing out the full potential of IoT.”
