IBM has been approved by the Federal Communications Commission to host federal workloads in the company’s Softlayer cloud environment, Nextgov reported Thursday.

Frank Konkel writes IBM’s Ashburn, Virginia and Richardson, Texas-based data centers received the FCC’s authorization to run government applications.

“IBM’s federal cloud business has reached another milestone as we continue to work with federal agencies to embrace cloud as a way to deliver more innovations that drive citizen engagement to new levels,” said Anne Altman, IBM’s federal general manager.

Nextgov reports the FCC plans to migrate from physical data centers to a cloud setup over the coming months.
