northrop-Grumman_BLUENorthrop Grumman has concluded the development and limited distribution of consolidated shipboard legacy network programs across the fleet of the U.S. Navy.

The company said Monday the Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services system is designed to streamline logistics and modernize command, control, communications, computers and intelligence programs of submarines, aircraft carriers and other ship classes.

“We are honored and proud to contribute significantly to this critical component of the Navy’s modernization plan,” said Sam Abbate, vice president and general manager of Northrop’s command and control division.

One Northrop-built CANES configuration has already been applied to a Navy cruiser and destroyer, he added.

The company has deployed 37 shipsets to the military branch since it received the CANES design contract in early 2012.
