An Orbital ATK-made precision guidance technology for the U.S. Army‘s 155-millimeter artillery shells achieved reliability and safety objectives in a recent lot acceptance test.

The company said Monday its Precision Guidance Kit demonstrated a less than 10-meter median accuracy during the evaluation.

Mike Kahn, president of Orbital ATK’s defense systems group, said he believes that “accuracy translates to effectiveness, an important factor in support of the warfighter.”

The PGK fuze is designed to guide 15mm projectiles to the target and employ a self-generated power supply system and gun-hardened electronics.

Orbital ATK the technology to also prevent detonation of the munition before it reaches the target.
