A-10Boeing is considering whether to offer modernized versions of the A-10 Warthog for international military customers as the U.S. Air Force plans the aircraft’s retirement from service, Aviation Week reported Monday.

Paul Cejas, a chief engineer at Boeing, told the publication Boeing’s plan is dependent on whether the retirement pushes through amid opposition from lawmakers.

Cejas noted that potential exports will feature a new engine and possibly a new targeting pod and helmet-mounted display system.

Brendan McGarry also reported Tuesday on DoD Buzz that Chris Raymond, vice president of business development and strategy at Boeing’s defense, space and security business, confirmed initial discussions with the Air Force on the export plan.

“They have to make some decisions about what they actually have that they’re willing to declare as excess defense articles,” Raymond told reporters at the Paris Air Show.

“We need to see what they want to do first and then we’d certainly want to try to help market some of those around the world, if they choose to want to do that.”
