Pentagon Orders Chemring-Made Aerial IR Countermeasure Decoys

M212flareA Chemring Group subsidiary has secured two contracts worth a combined $26 million to manufacture special material decoys for the U.S. military to guard aircraft from infrared guided missile threats.

The Army awarded Chemring unit Alloy Surfaces a three-year contract for the production of M211, MJU50A/B and MJU-51A/B IR countermeasures for both the Army and Air Force, Chemring said Monday.

Alloy Surfaces is also set to enter the second year of a potential three-year contract to supply MJU-66/B decoys for Navy and Air Force aircraft.

The company will perform work in Chester Township, Pennsylvania.

Decoy flares are designed to protect helicopters as well as fighter and transport planes against heat-seeking air-to-air and surface-to-air missiles.
