HIIKaren Velkey, formerly director of corporate compensation at Huntington Ingalls Industries, has been promoted to corporate VP of benefits and compensation.

She will report directly to Chief Human Resources Officer and Corporate VP Bill Ermatinger and oversee the company’s executive compensation, salary and wage administration, deferred compensation, health and welfare insurance, retirement and incentive programs, HII said Monday.

Velkey is a more than 20-year human resource professional and previously held positions at HII division Newport News Shipbuilding, Northrop Grumman and Double G Coatings.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from Millsaps College and an M.B.A. degree from the University of Montana.
