Northrop GrummanNorthrop Grumman has completed a series of flight tests for its command and control platform aboard an RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aerial system.

The flight test was carried out to assess the Control Mission Management System’s capability to connect to the U.S. Air Force’s Common Mission Control Center via the UAS CU Initiative message standard and respond to requests to change sensor functions and flight routes, Northrop said Tuesday.

The UCI standard is designed to facilitate interoperability across different weapon systems.

“Our customers’ advanced intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance requirements call for modern ground control systems based on emerging standards that can be used across air vehicle platforms – that’s what we strive to deliver,” said Michael Leahy, CMMS program director at Northrop.
