cyberRaytheon and Southern Methodist University have formed a partnership to collaborate on research, offer internship opportunities and support other education initiatives in the field of cybersecurity, the Dallas Business Journal reported Friday.

Danielle Abril writes the partnership builds on Raytheon’s work with SMU’s Darwin Deason Institute for Cyber Security at the Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering.

Fred Chang told the publication the team will “help train [SMU] students to become part of a desperately needed workforce of cyber defenders.”

Abril reports that Raytheon has hired more than 50 graduates of the university’s master of security engineering program over the past 10 years.

SMU’s cybersecurity institute is named after Affiliated Computer Services founder Darwin Deason, the report said.
