Elbit Systems of America has updated a vision system the company built to help U.S. Air Force pilots operate in tough weather conditions.

The system is designed to keep aircraft safe and provide situational awareness during flight operations in darkness, smoke, haze, rain and fog, Elbit Systems of America said Thursday.

EVS also integrates with a head-up display to help pilots land, taxi and take off in various weather situations.

“The intelligent vision in the cockpit gives pilots immediate and accurate recognition of friendly, threat, and unknown targets,” said Raanan Horowitz, president and CEO of Elbit Systems of America.

The Federal Aviation Administration also authorizes an EVS-equipped aircraft to fly below a 200-foot decision altitude.
